Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is excited to announce the promotion of Alexander Kline, P.E. to Operations Manager, Indianapolis. In addition to overseeing project and program management for our clients, Alex will now be responsible for leading all members of the Indianapolis team and spearheading business development efforts throughout the geographic market.
“Alex is a key contributor to the success and growth that our Indianapolis office has experienced in recent years. He brings a wealth of experience to this role, having delivered several high-profile projects in his time at IEI. We are excited to have him lead the Indy office in its next phase,” states IEI President, Kashif Khan.
Alex originally joined IEI’s Chicago office in June 2012 as a Design Engineer. After transferring to our Indianapolis office, Alex progressed in his career with a promotion to Project Engineer and then to Project Manager. Throughout his tenure with IEI, Alex has excelled at meeting client expectations and has played an integral role in creating a positive workplace culture in the Indy office.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Indianapolis office and help this office thrive and grow to serve both the community and clients in this market. IEI is excited to announce the promotions of Adrian Fernandez P.E. as the Office Leader for the Peoria Office and Julius Cousin III, PE, as the Office Leader in Detroit.
In their dual roles as Project Manager and Office Leader of their respective markets, Adrian and Julius will be responsible for building client relationships and delivering project solutions.
In the Peoria market, Adrian Fernandez will work closely with Ken Smorynski, Vice President of Illinois, in expanding IEI’s presence in Central Illinois. Since joining IEI in 2012, Adrian has been involved in the delivery of both design and inspection projects in Peoria, NY, and Chicago offices.
In the Detroit market, Julius will work closely with Stan Smith, Director of Business Development. He will be responsible for project delivery and for cultivating relationships with our clients as we grow in the Michigan market. Julius joined IEI in 2013, and prior to heading to Detroit, he had been involved in the delivery of both design and inspection projects in Chicago.

In his role as Vic
e President, Mr. Rodriguez will oversee implementation of strategic growth, staff development and engagement, client relations, contract management and oversight of day-to-day activities for both the New York and New Jersey offices.

Since joining IEI in 2017, Maike has led IEI’s NYC office, establishing the firm in the market. When asked about his expanded role, Maike remarked, “I am excited to take on this new role as Vice President of Operations, NY/NJ, and I am confident that with the help and support of my NY team and IEI leadership, we will continue to earn the trust of our clients and grow our presence in the New York and New Jersey markets, as both prime and teaming partner. As the engi
neering leader of the firm, he will be responsible for not only establishing the guidelines but also promoting a culture of consistent excellence, quality control and best practices in the technical delivery of projects and services to the firm’s clients. Dustin will work closely with project teams in all offices on the delivery of design, construction inspection and program management projects.
IEI President Kashif Khan remarked, “Dustin is the right person to lead this role for the organization. Since joining IEI in 2007, he has successfully delivered or been involved in a diverse portfolio of projects for clients in multiple offices, overcoming challenges and establishing best-in-class practices.”
Dustin asserted, “As VP of Engineering, I will be focused on driving greater consistency in our engineering workflows and approaches, thereby enhancing the cross-utilization of our expertise in all markets. IEI is a newer large-project competitor, and as we grow, my role is to empower our staff to do their best work for our clients. I am excited for this new opportunity to collaborate with our Operations Leaders and staff across all offices to help continue to provide exceptional service at a larger scale.”

Mr. Smorynski will oversee IEI’s design, program management and construction inspection staff for the entire state. He will also be responsible for staff development and engagement, client relations, contract management and overseeing day-to-day activities.

hicago, IL (September 14, 2021) — Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) is pleased to announce that Aaron Patterson, PE, PTOE has been promoted to Design Group Manager to lead the efforts of the design team at the firm’s corporate headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Patterson will now be responsible for managing Chicago’s design team while overseeing the design and coordination of several projects. He will mentor the next generation of IEI engineers and share knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
With more than 14 years of design and transportation experience, Mr. Patterson will focus on continuing to develop the firm’s design capabilities to deliver successful solutions for our clients’ most challenging projects. He and his team will oversee key client relationships, proposal development, and project execution.
Mr. Patterson originally joined IEI in 2012 as a project engineer and his tenure has included several complex projects, most recently serving as the CDOT Aldermanic Menu Program Manager since 2019. His broad experience includes design, project management, coordination, and quality assurances for all phases of project development – particularly for highway, local roadway, pedestrian facilities, traffic, and bridge design.
Aaron Patterson studied applied physics at Morehouse College, civil engineering at Columbia University and earned his MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and New York and certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).

Kashif Khan, PE, the company’s current Executive Vice President, will become President of IEI, succeeding Michael Sutton, PE, who has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since purchasing the company in 1997. Mr. Sutton will retain the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Since joining IEI in 2006, Mr. Khan, PE has held key leadership roles, with project delivery, sales and business operations. He was instrumental in the launch of IEI’s Indianapolis office and helped transform the location into a focused and profitable cost center. In 2011, Mr. Khan became a shareholder and a principal of the firm. As Executive Vice President, he oversaw the firm’s project delivery with a focus on improving operational efficiencies. As President, Mr. Khan has oversight of all key functional areas of the firm and will manage day to day operational matters. He is a strong believer in community service, which mirrors the IEI belief of giving back to the community in which we live and work. Mr. Khan received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from City University of New York, Grove School of Engineering and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Indianapolis.
